To support, stability and mobilise our fully adjustable, brightly coloured red walking frame comes in three different heights.
It is manufactured from lightweight aluminium and has two wheels to the front and non–slip ferrules to the rear.
Three NHS Trusts and several care homes in Leeds, West Yorkshire have been trialling the use of a range of red walking aids.
As we age, many of us experience some level of sight impairment, making it sometimes difficult to see a standard frame. For those who are also living with dementia or memory issues, it is easy to forget there is a need to use a frame, both of which can lead to an increased risk of falls, avoidable injuries and of course delayed discharge from hospital.
The trial has proved successful in prompting patients to use their frames and staff are very pleased with the resulting reduction in falls. The red frames have now been introduced as standard on some of the elderly and rehabilitation wards.
Lack of mobility can also lead to a range of other issues, including reduced confidence, isolation and loneliness, so a visible frame can help to overcome these for those living in their own homes or sheltered accommodation.
